New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore is in some good company when it comes to Madden NFL 21: the NFL’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year is one of just four players to join the “99 Club” in this year’s version of the game, achieving the highest possible player rating of 99 points. Gilmore is therefore a part of a group also consisting of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey and Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald.
While the rating was already leaked a few days ago, it was officially announced by EA Sports and the Patriots earlier today. As part of this reveal, a video of him being surprised by his family also was posted on social media:

Gilmore earning a 99 rating is no real surprise considering his standout season last year. The league’s best cornerback saw 80 passes thrown his way throughout the season, but allowed only 33 of them (41.3%) to be completed for a total of 456 yards with only one touchdown. In the meantime, he registered six interceptions — tied for most in the league — and returned two of them for scores. He was also named to his second straight Pro Bowl and first All-Pro team, ad made multiple all-season teams.
