Shortly after the New England Patriots signed free agent Cam Newton to a one-year contract in late June, veteran wide receiver Julian Edelman took to social media to send a simple message the quarterback’s way: Let’s work. Now, it looks like the two veterans — one a league MVP, the other a Super Bowl MVP — have indeed started working out together.
According to a short video shared on Newton’s Instagram account, the two recently joined forced at the UCLA campus:
Edelman is the latest Patriots pass catcher to work out with Newton. Mohamed Sanu, N’Keal Harry and rookie tight end Devin Asiasi have also all shared the field with the 31-year-old over the last few weeks — all while fellow quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer have organized various throwing sessions on the East Coast.
When the video shared by Newton was taped is not clear, however, considering that persons traveling to Massachusetts from California will have to quarantine for two weeks. With Patriots quarterbacks set to report to training camp this week, the throwing session will likely have taken place some time back. Either way, seeing New England’s top wide receiver and possible starting quarterback get together is a positive development.
