When it comes to the New England Patriots, Deion Branch knows a thing or two because he has seen a thing or two: the former wide receiver, who retired from pro football in 2014, appeared in a combined 103 games for the organization and played a pivotal role in bringing two Vince Lombardi Trophies to New England. So, with a new quarterback arriving in town to fill in for Tom Brady, Branch recently appeared on CBS Sports Radio’s The Zach Gelb Show to talk about Cam Newton and his potential impact on the Patriots offense.
Needless to say that Branch sounds excited about seeing the former league MVP wear the colors of his old team:
Super Bowl 39 #MVP @deionbranch84 is excited to see @CameronNewton work with Josh McDaniels but thinks @bhoyer7 and @Jarrett_Stidham have a legitimate chance to win the #Patriots QB 1 job.

“I expect big things,” Branch said when asked about Newton. “I’m just excited to see what Josh McDaniels can come up with, with this type of athlete. He’s had, with Tom, the greatest quarterback to ever play the game. That’s the easy part. But the Patriots have never had a dual-threat quarterback such as Cam Newton at the helm. Josh is a brilliant offensive coordinator. This is going to be exciting to see what these guys can create, and what they can come up with. And if they can make this work — just to see what it looks like.”
For all his excitement, the MVP of Super Bowl 39 also added that he would not crown Newton the starting quarterback just yet and that he would expect both Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer to make for an interesting training camp competition.
