In case his eight Super Bowl rings and the fact that he built a dynasty with the New England Patriots are not enough to convince you that Bill Belichick is a football savant, listen to him just casually recall Navy’s 1967 football season during a live broadcast on ESPN on Monday. While the team was blown out 55-3 by Brigham Young, the Patriots’ head coach went deep into the history books:

Belichick, of course, grew up in Annapolis and played both football and lacrosse at a local high school. At the time, his late father Steve worked in numerous roles — from coach, to scout, to physical education instructor — at the Naval Academy. His ties with Navy are plenty, and he regularly points this out (he did just that during his Monday press conference call when he said he was looking forward to watching the game).
Belichick’s team also has two Navy products under contract: long snapper Joe Cardona is on the Patriots’ 53-man roster; fullback/tight end Paul Quessenberry is a member of New England’s practice squad.
