The New England Patriots opened their Week 7 game against the New York Jets in perfect fashion. Receiving the opening kickoff, they drove 65 yards in only four plays to take a 7-0 lead. Following a Damien Harris run as well as two plays featuring tight end Jonnu Smith, the Patriots pulled out the trickery.
Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels called a backwards pass to Kendrick Bourne, who did not try to advance it. Instead, he threw a 25-yard pass to fellow wide receiver Nelson Agholor that was taken into the end zone for a touchdown.
The pass attempt was not just Bourne’s first of the season, it was the first of his career in the NFL. He and Agholor both joined the organization in free agency this offseason, with Bourne signing a three-year contract and Agholor being brought in for two.
