With the NFL trade deadline coming up, the first major move of the week has taken place. As first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and since confirmed by his agent, linebacker Von Miller has been sent from the Denver Broncos to the Los Angeles Rams.
The Rams are sending second- and third-round draft picks in the 2022 draft to Denver in return for Miller. Meanwhile, the Broncos will pay $9 million of the remaining $9.7 million on Miller’s deal.
Miller originally joined the Broncos as the second overall selection in the 2011 draft. Since then, he has established himself as one of the best defenders of his era: Miller has been voted to eight Pro Bowls, helped Denver win a Super Bowl that saw him get named MVP, and is a member of the NFL’s Team of the 2010s. He also appeared in a combined 149 regular season and playoff games for the club, registering a total of 117 sacks.
Now, he will join Aaron Donald and company to give the Rams even more star power and a quality starter even at age 32.
The move itself also has an impact on the AFC as a whole. The Broncos, who at 4-4 are competing for a playoff spot against teams such as the New England Patriots, have now parted ways with one of their best players — one that was on the field for 76 percent of the team’s defensive snaps so far this season.
