Update 11/10/2021: Odell Beckham Jr. rumors tracker: Patriots among 6 teams that reportedly ‘remain in’ on the free agent wide receiver
While an earlier report indicated that the New England Patriots might have departed the Odell Beckham Jr. sweepstakes, it seems as if they are still very much involved with the Pro Bowl wide receiver. According to a report by Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Patriots are one of six teams that “remain in” on Beckham Jr. at this point in time.
They are joined by the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks and one mystery team.
Original story 11/10/2021: Odell Beckham Jr. rumors: Patriots not among the 3 teams free agent wide receiver is reportedly ‘honing in’ on
Odell Beckham Jr. has a decision to make: Where will the Pro Bowl wide receiver continue his career after going unclaimed following his release from the Cleveland Browns? The free agent is reportedly in contact with multiple teams and has “honed in” on three of them.
The New England Patriots do not appear to be among them: according to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, Beckham Jr. is currently focused on the Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints.
Whereas the Chiefs and Packers can offer elite quarterback play in the form of Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers, respectively, the Saints have been interested in Beckham Jr. since before the NFL trade deadline last week. They were reportedly the only team talking with the Browns about acquiring the wide receiver. The finances, however, ultimately kept them from making a move.
With Beckham Jr. now a free agent and eligible to join any team at any price, its seems New Orleans is still in contention for him. The Patriots, meanwhile, appear to be out at the moment.
New England was seen as a potential landing spot for various reasons. Not only does the team have a reputation for getting careers back on track, Beckham Jr. himself has also spoken highly of head coach Bill Belichick in the past. Based on Russini’s report, however, it seems as if the two will not join forces at this time.
