Injured Patriots running back Rex Burkhead shares an encouraging update from his rehab

Rex Burkhead was an integral member of the New England Patriots’ running back group during the 2020 season, but it was cut short due to injury: in Week 11 against the Houston Texans, the veteran runner remained on the ground after a short carry and eventually had to be carted off the field with what appeared to be a major injury.

Burkhead eventually was diagnosed with a torn ACL, and had to undergo surgery shortly thereafter. Since then, the 30-year-old has been in the process of rehabbing — and just this week shared an encouraging update: he posted a short video on social media that showed him in the middle of a workout.

His ability to come back from his knee injury will be a major factor for Burkhead this spring. After all, he is headed towards free agency and is in need of a new contract either by the Patriots, with whom he spent the last four years, or another club.
