Free agent running back Rex Burkhead posts encouraging update from his recovery

Rex Burkhead has had a quiet free agency so far and remains unsigned more than two weeks after entering the open market in mid-March. Behind the scenes, however, he is pretty busy and continuing to work his way back from a season-ending knee injury.

On Friday, Burkhead took to social media to post two videoclips from his recovery process. The veteran running back, who spent the last four seasons with the New England Patriots, posted a video of him working out on a field and a treadmill. Based on the clips, he appears to be progressing well.

Burkhead hurt his knee in November. He remained on the ground after a short carry and eventually had to be carted off the field with what appeared to be a major injury. The 30-year-old eventually was diagnosed with a torn ACL, and had to undergo surgery shortly thereafter.

His ability to come back from the ailment will be a major factor for Burkhead as he is looking for a new club — or for a return to his old one.
