It is the morning of the NFL’s 2021 draft, and the oddsmakers feel strongly about the New England Patriots adding a quarterback in the first round. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the team is currently viewed as the betting favorite to land Ohio State’s Justin Fields at one point later today.
The Patriots have the best odds in the league with just over 13 hours to go until the first selection is made:
- New England Patriots: +200
- Carolina Panthers: +300
- Atlanta Falcons: +500
- San Francisco 49er: +500
- Denver Broncos: +600
- Detroit Lions: +600
- Washington Football Team: +800
- Chicago Bears: +1000
The belief is that New England likes Fields and there have been rumors that the club might consider trading up for him if he makes it out of the top-3. The Panthers and Falcons have both been identified as potential trade partners, even though, as can be seen, they are also listed among the possible landing spots.
The Patriots also were in touch with the young quarterback at both of his two Pro Days. Scouting consultant Eliot Wolf attended his first throwing session, with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, assistant director of player personnel Dave Ziegler and national scout Matt Groh traveling to Columbus for his second workout.
