The New England Patriots have opened their 2021 training camp on Wednesday, and naturally all eyes were on the quarterback position. One player in particular was closely looked at by fans and media alike: Mac Jones, the Patriots’ first-round draft pick earlier this year.
Jones already looked good during offseason workouts and mandatory minicamp, but he is now getting his first taste of an NFL training camp. Wednesday’s practice will not yet show how well he can adapt to pro level speed and physicality, but it does give us another impression of his skills as he attempts to compete for the starting quarterback job held by Cam Newton last season.
Along the way, he also threw his first passes that were captured by those present at Gillette Stadium:

Jones is one of four quarterbacks currently on the Patriots’ roster. Incumbent starter Cam Newton and veteran Brian Hoyer are also present at practice. Third-year man Jarrett Stidham remains on the physically unable to perform list.
