Michael Onwenu fights back against ‘false narrative’ after Patriots’ loss to Giants

During the New England Patriots’ loss to the New York Giants, video was captured of offensive tackle Michael Onwenu bumping into quarterback Mac Jones as he exited the field. The gesture left some room for interpretation, but Onwenu took to social media after the game to clarify: there was no malicious intent.

“False narrative,” he wrote on the platform formerly known as Twitter. “This is me telling Mac to keep his head up. Not bumping him intentionally.”

Jones threw a pair of interceptions against the Giants, and was benched at halftime in favor of backup Bailey Zappe (who himself threw a pick). New England ended up scoring on only touchdown all day, eventually falling 10-7 to drop to 2-9 on the year.

Whereas Jones played only half the game, Onwenu went wire-to-wire at his position at right tackle. The former sixth-round draft pick is in the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, and headed for unrestricted free agency next spring.
