Five things we learned from the Patriots 43-17 blowout win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The New England Patriots have had an incredible one week turnaround. Just six days after suffering an embarrassing 41-14 to the Chiefs, they have handed the Bengals a similar outcome in a 43-17 win on Sunday Night Football.

Here are five things we learned from the game:

These Patriots are resilient.

Earlier in the week, we pointed out that tonight's game would be the ultimate chance at redemption for the Patriots. All week, they scrutinized. The national media, the local media, and even a large segment of the fanbase commented that this team was dead in the water. They were wrong. This team could have folded, but instead they flourished against the NFL's last remaining undefeated team. There might not have been a team in the world that could have beaten the Patriots tonight. They were angry and had a collective chip on their shoulder. To put it simply, it was awesome.

Tom Brady can still be Tom Terrific.

We've all seen angry Tom Brady. But tonight's angry Tom Brady was a different kind of angry Tom. He had a chip on his shoulder. Perhaps better stated, he had a chip on his other shoulder, since we know he normall already plays with one. Who didn't get chills from the "Brady! Brady! Brady!" chants that were echoing throughout Gillette Stadium. Brady was awesome tonight, just not on the field, but as a leader.

The Patriots have an interior offensive line.

The Patriots trotted out a new interior line tonight. Dan Connolly started at left guard, rookie Bryan Stork at center, and Ryan Wendell at right guard. The results, from the initial viewing, were phenomenal. The fact that the Patriots were able to stick to one combination at those three positions was a win to begin with. But each of those three played very, very well. The Patriots had nearly 200 yards running the ball up the middle (and here's my shout-out to Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen). Brady had all day to throw. It took a quarter of the season, but it looks like the Patriots have found their solution on the interior.

Tim Wright will be a factor and that Gronk guy still is.

There was a Tim Wright sighting in Foxboro. After very limited usage over the first four weeks, the Patriots unleashed Tim Wright tonight. They lined him up at a variety of spots, got him involved down the seam, in the screen game, and at multiple levels of the field. He isn't Aaron Hernandez, but he could be the compliment to Rob Gronkowski that the Patriots have been seeking. Gronkowski, by the way, had 100 yards on six catches and had a touchdown of his own. He looked quicker in his cuts, and although he did have a few drops, he looks to be getting closer and closer to the Gronk we've grown accustomed to.

Darrelle Revis is still elite.

We all asked the Patriots to use Darrelle Revis in man coverage. We begged to have him shadowing A.J. Green. And that's exactly what he did. Revis shadowed Green for almost the entire game - from the outside, to the slot, to either side of the field. He clearly won the match-up with Green, allowing just two receptions, and forcing a fumble that was recovered by the Patriots. With Brandon Browner coming back next week, hopefully this is a trend that will continue.

Bonus: what about those refs? The Patriots clearly made some mental mistakes out there, but Jerome Bogar and his crew had more than a few questionable calls.

The offense was able to withstand a momentum push from the Bengals in the third quarter, and the Patriots also had a special tams touchdown.

This game still has nearly a quarter to go, so it's far from over.

Cornerback Darrelle Revis and safety Devin McCourty each went down with injury in the Patriots week five match-up against the Bengals.

The New England Patriots lost their top two defensive backs to injury in their week five match-up against the Cincinnati Bengals.

In the second quarter, safety Devin McCourty went down with a rib injury and has not returned to the game. Safety Duron Harmon came into the game in his place and the Patriots have been left susceptible to the deep ball since. He was announced as questionable to return.

Darrelle Revis went down with an apparent hamstring injury late in the third quarter. As he was walking back to the locker room, his replacement, Logan Ryan, allowed a long touchdown pass to A.J. Green.

The Patriots still have a big lead in this one, but if the Patriots lose either Revis or McCourty for a long stretch, there could be serious issues going forward in the secondary.

We'll have further updates on both Revis and Edelman as soon as we hear anything.

Update: Darrelle Revis has returned to the game. So we're just waiting on McCourty now.

Update 2: McCourty is"expected to be OK" after initial tests didn't show any breaks.

Halftime thoughts as the Patriots lead the Bengals 20-3 on Sunday Night Football.

The New England Patriots have played like a different team from the one we saw on Monday, and currently lead the Bengals 20-3 at halftime.

Tom Brady has been the story thus far. He's played like, really, really angry and led the Patriots to touchdowns on their first two drives of the game. He missed some throws in the second quarter, but has played inspired football and his teammates have rallied around him.

Defensively, the story has been Darrelle Revis. He's shadowed AJ Green on nearly every snap and forced a fumble that the Patriots recovered on the only pass Green did catch with him in coverage.

Another big story thus far: the penalties. Jerome Bogar and his crew have been terrible thus far, calling the Patriots for multiple questionable defensive holding and personal foul penalties. However, the Patriots have made some unacceptable mental errors and will need to be more disciplined in the second half.

Open game thread for the Patriots' week five match-up against the Cincinnati Bengals.

In just 30 minutes, the New England Patriots take on the Cincinnati Bengals on NBC on Sunday Night Football.

The Patriots, of course, had one of their biggest meltdowns in recent memory against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night. They're going to have a chip on their shoulder heading into this one, but these Bengals are hot and they are confident.

I do think that the Patriots will play a much more competitive game, but for the first time this year, I'm picking against them and simultaneously providing you a minor pregame buzzkill (sorry). Greg's Prediction: Bengals 24 Patriots 17

The New England Patriots inactives for their week five match-up against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The New England Patriots have announced their inactives for their week five Sunday Night Football match-up against the Cincinnati Bengals:

Nate Ebner, S; Cameron Fleming, OL; Josh Kline, OL; James White, RB; Malcolm Butler, DB; Zach Moore, Dont'a Hightower, LB

The big name here is Dont'a Hightower. Hightower was questionable with a knee injury, and his absence is a big blow to this run defense. He's been one of the teams best and most consistent players all year.

There is good news, though. The Patriots get Alfonzo Dennard back for the first time since week one. He should immediately be re-inserted back into the top three on the depth chart with Darrelle Revis and Logan Ryan. Kyle Arrington could be limited to dime work. With the extra depth, the Patriots also made the rookie free agent Butler inactive.

Aaron Dobson is also active for the second time this year after a reported altercation with OC Josh McDaniels. Hopefully he can help stretch the field for the Patriots. The team needs all the help they can get in that area, and Dobson provides a glimmer of hope.
